How long till spring turkey season?
Deer season is over ,ice fishing will be starting soon but I'm already thinking of turkeys. For the last 3 years i've been seeing a great increase in the turkey population in our hunting area, and likewise the amount of hunters pursuing them. Fish and Wildlife have some new propsals on their plate having to do with turkey hunting which just might open up the season and give us more time in the woods. One of the proposals is to let everyone hunt from begining to the end of the season. The crazy split season they have in place now needs to change. One of the other propsals is to let hunters hunt all day. I'm not sure I agree with this one because of the hens that come off the nest to feed in the afternoon because of the warmth stand a chance at being shot and never being able to hatch out their broods.Either way both of these could mean more time for the hunters to pursue their game and I am all for that. This past year the mast crops here in the western mountain were exceptional and that should put more weigh on those already big mountain toms that I love to chase. During the bear and deer seasons I found many new flocks with some bragging size toms just waiting for my 12 gauge to roll them over. Enough dreaming I have lots of work to do at the new lodge before bear season arrives.
