Just plain fun!
New years day found us out to Webb lake looking for some trout action. The ice was about 8 inches thick, more than enough to fish on. We set up close to shore in the morning and had lots of flags but caught only a couple fish. After noon I set a few traps out deeper . We caught a small brown @14,a brookie @14, a pickerel @24. and then the furthest trap out went off. The line wasn't flying off the spool but it was going. I set the hook and knew it was a good fish. When it went by the hole I could see it was a decent brown 1 more run and he was on the ice.18" 3 lbs. Not bad for the first day. We had a couple more good fish on even one that broke off on 8lb test. The first few weeks always produce some nice fish and the word is that everyone had good luck that weekend. Rumors of some big brookies and a 7 lb brown down at Worthley pond surfaced last week. Maybe we will give that spot a try this weekend. I enjoy fishing for trout but really like to get in on the pickerel and bass action. We have found that pickerel are some of the best eating. Carefull fileting leaves some sweet thin filets for the pan. Another great way to eat them is to skin and filet then put the food processor to work. Add bread crumbs, an egg, season to taste and make into patties. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.
